The main scope of the MOSATCLIM Project
  1. To produce relevant and accurate information on the state of the different terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems test areas in Romania due to impact of climatic changes feedbacks at local, regional and in the context of global level
  2. To analyze this information in terms of changes trends and its possible impacts
  3. To make the information available in an appropriate format in form of an Integrated Information System to the user community and management and decision making factors, in order to apply the proper environmental policies in emergency situations

The project will investigate and monitor dynamic and functioning changes of different environmental systems in Romania (urban, industrial, forestry and agricultural, marine and deltaic, fresh aquatic) by research on the impacts of local, regional and global environmental changes developed at national and European levels. Multifunctional role of ecosystems is revealed by: short and long-term responses and reactions to a fast changing environment, having a negative influence on ecological and social services. Predicting how systems will be affected, determining how their management can help them to adapt to this evolving environment and how they can contribute to mitigate greenhouse effect. The combination of remote sensing new sensors information technology in synergy with intensive and in-situ observations and modeling techniques is paving the way for optimization of the ecosystems research and for the design of decision support systems.

Objectives
  1. to assess, forecast, and mitigate climatic changes feed-backs on landuse/landcover of terrestrial ecosystems and its biodiversity as well as on adjacent environment areas in Romania
  2. to provide early warning strategies on the basis of effects of ecosystems earth’s features degradation
  3. to provide a better understanding of cause-effect-relationships between changes in biodiversity and the ecological status, and the impact of environmental pollution and climatic changes as causative factors
  4. to develop methods for state-of-the-art risk assessment and decision support systems for the selection of the most efficient management options to prevent effects of anthropogenic and climatic stressors
  5. to strengthen the scientific knowledge on an European level according to FP7, ERA - European Research Areas and GMES - Global Monitoring for Environment and Security. Through a better understanding of the terrestrial ecosystem's role in global climate change and its feedbacks, proposal will contribute at improving of policy strategies to reduce the risks and vulnerability of ecosystems

MOSATCLIM will create a platform for the research results dissemination to all society levels. It will stimulate and strengthen international cooperation between research organizations at national and international levels between research institutes and universities.
